OFF THE BEATEN TRACK – ALGARVE 

Beginner to intermediate – we will take care of you every pedal of the way

A unique experience to go out with a local guide who will show you an Algarve that you never can experience on your own. The day starts in the village of Porches (off the EN125 between Guia and Lagoa).

imagesWe start by a visit to the Salgados nature reserve home to a huge variety of birds including flamingos and the rare purple gallinule – then it is back in the saddle to pedal through traditional countryside covered with vines, carob, almond, olive and orange trees to a local cafe for coffee and a pasteis de nata (Portuguese custard tart – yummy) before we visit the spectacular cliffs that the Algarve is famous for and2012-02-04 14.28.52 the beautiful chapel of Sra Nossa de Rocha perched on the cliff tops.

After a pause for breath we continue along to the famous pottery of Porches muralwhere you can watch the local ladies paint the traditional pottery before we continue on to the village of Alcantarilha for a visit to another chapel but this one is full of bones! This ride ends back at the village of Pera with a late lunch which you will have earned for all your efforts.

Any day to suit – minimum 2 people; 09.00 – 14.30hr. Cost 50 euro per person

DOWN HILL TO THE CASTLE – ALGARVE

This is more for the intermediate cyclist who has experience

imagesFor this great day trip we meet in Silves and from here you are brought by a mini-van to the highest peak in the Algarve, the Foia on 902 metres, in the middle of the Serra de Monchique where you can enjoy stunning views to the west & south coast.

Your guide takes time to explain the route and the bicycle over a coffee before you start out and remember it is DOWN HILL ..SO EASY DOES IT! We take the back roads but have time to stop on the way to taste local honey and for those that dare ‘medronho’ – Algarve fire water made from the arbutus berry.

We pass by the new Odelouca dam and through the beautiful Odelouca valley,  imagespedalling imagesby orchards of citrus fruit – this is the heart of orange growing area – before we stop at a local winery for a guided tour and tasting. Although difficult to leave, we must to continue to Silves  where you have time to visit the castle before departing.

The total is about 38 km/25 miles, net cycling time approximately 3hr 45mins.

Mondays  only – minimum 2 people; 09.00 – 14.30hr. Cost – 58 euro per person
